Peter Cook (1937 – 1995)

Flower Festival 2012 :

I knew the comedian/actor/satirist Peter Cook through being married to Dudley Moore.

I have used Birds of Paradise because they are flamboyant and elegant, along with bamboo type spikes to convey his often sarcastic (and uncomfortable to the recipient) humour. These are not run of the mill flowers and certainly stand out in any crowd, as Peter did.

Beneath the frightening wit Peter had a softer side and a kind heart, so the gypsophila I hope portrays that. All in all, it is as surprising a mix of flowers as Peter was a person.

His grave is not marked but three of us were there when his ashes were lovingly placed in the graveyard across the road. The Revd Phillip Buckler, Peter’s widow Lin Chong and myself.

Typically Peter had joked that he wanted his ashes to be buried by his fish pond so that he could watch the fish!
