Courage

Everyone faces challenges in life, often with courage, but few face direct and immediate danger. We have selected two individuals and a group of eight others, to represent the wider population, who illustrate how some have risen to the challenge when called upon: 

• Ernest Gidden - a Royal Navy officer who defused a bomb in central London
• Anton Walbrook - a movie star and Jewish refugee
• Hampstead’s war heroes - eight servicemen who were buried at home
